Larry Kudlow, a conservative pundit and informal adviser to Donald Trump, said that he would like to see the president-elect nominate some Democrats to his Cabinet.
During a radio interview with John Catsimatidis on Sunday, Kudlow was asked about rumors that Wall Street executive Jamie Dimon, a Democrat, is on Trump’s shortlist for Treasury secretary.
{mosads}”I would love to see it,” Kudlow said. “Not only because I have so much respect for Jamie Dimon — he’s a great banker — but also, John, I think Mr. Trump should have a number of Democrats in his Cabinet.”
Kudlow noted that former President John F. Kennedy tapped a Republican to head the Treasury Department after he narrowly beat Richard Nixon in 1960 and suggested that Trump make a similar gesture since he lost the popular vote to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
“So I like Jamie Dimon a lot. I like this idea a lot, and I’d like to see some bipartisanship in the Trump administration,” he said.
Kudlow also called for an increase in civility and respect in political discourse, predicting it will give way to more bipartisanship.
Reuters reported last week that the Trump team reached out to Dimon about the job, but it is unclear whether the JPMorgan Chase CEO is interested in the offer.
