Jon Stewart to media covering Trump: ‘Stop your whining’
Jon Stewart lashed out at President Trump and the media in an interview on Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show” on Monday.
The former “Daily Show” host expressed astonishment at Trump’s decision to skip this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner and White House press secretary Sean Spicer’s barring certain media outlets from a briefing.
“I can’t believe the guy’s got the balls,” Stewart said. “Trump lies more in one press conference than CNN does in a year, and this is coming from a guy who hates CNN.”
{mosads}Stewart then told the media to buck up and “stop your whining.”
“Hey, media, I heard Donald Trump broke up with you,” Stewart said. “It stings a little, doesn’t it? You finally thought you met your match: a blabbermouth who’s as thin-skinned and narcissistic as you are. Well, now it’s over. Good riddance, I say! Kick him to the curb.
“Media, it is time for you to get your groove back. You’ve let yourself go over the past few years.”
Stewart said that Trump has given the media an “amazing opportunity for self-reflection and improvement. Instead of worrying whether Trump thinks you’re un-American or if he thinks you’re the enemy, or if he’s being mean to you … do something for yourself. Take up a hobby — I recommend journalism.”
