Seattle synagogue targeted with anti-Semitic vandalism: reports

A Seattle synagogue was vandalized early Friday morning, making it the latest in a series of ongoing anti-Semitic acts across the country.

A photo taken by KOMO News Radio in Seattle shows the words “Holocaust is fake history” spray-painted across a wall of Temple de Hirsch Sinai, with each instance of the letter “S” replaced with dollar signs.

The vandalism was first noticed by an off-duty police officer and reported to synagogue staff, according to KOMO.

{mosads}”It was just horrifically disturbing graffiti that kind of encompassed all classic anti-Semitic tropes of Holocaust denial and of Jewish affinity for money,” Rabbi Daniel Weiner told the outlet. “It was immensely troubling and immensely disturbing and shocking to me and to our community.”

The act of vandalism at Temple de Hirsch Sinai is one of several that have taken place across the U.S. in recent weeks. Last month, a Jewish cemetery in Missouri was targeted when several headstones were broken and knocked to the ground.

Jewish Community Centers (JCCs) have also received bomb threats in recent weeks. Police arrested one suspect in connection with those threats earlier this month.

President Trump has faced questions about the rise in anti-Semitic acts following his January inauguration.

Trump denounced cases of anti-Semitism during his speech to the joint chamber of Congress last month, saying it is “horrible and it’s going to stop and it has to stop.”
