Romney to headline his first DC fundraiser since inauguration: report

Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who in 2016 emerged as a vocal critic of President Trump, will attend his first Washington, D.C., fundraiser since the inauguration next month, according to a new report.

Romney will be featured at a May 4 fundraiser at the Hawthorne on U Street for the Yellowstone Forever Young Patrons to raise money for Yellowstone National Park, McClatchy reported Tuesday.

{mosads}Romney, who was reportedly in the running for a seat in Trump’s Cabinet, has not announced any plans to run for political office since he lost the 2012 election to incumbent President Obama. 

But his name recently has been floated as a potential Senate candidate in Utah. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) said “it would be a great thing for America” if Romney chose to run for his seat should he retire in 2018.

A former Romney aide, who is the founder of the Yellowstone Forever Young Patrons, pushed back on the notion that the May event would include any sort of political statement.

“This is a bipartisan event,” Jackie Rooney told the news outlet. “Obviously, there will be a lot of friendly faces. We’re happy to be there and excited and honored for him to stop by.”
