Conway defends Melania Trump’s shoes: ‘She can wear whatever she wants’

Kellyanne Conway defended first lady Melania Trump’s decision to wear stilettos on her way to Texas this week, saying that people should show “some respect” and that “she can wear whatever she wants.”

“We saw what was in the president’s and the first lady’s hearts that day, not what was on their feet,” the White House adviser said on “Fox & Friends.” She also slammed the criticism over the first lady’s choice of footwear.

“It suggested to me that the left is really very worried that the president is successfully showing leadership and compassion and empathy and resolve and action,” Conway said.

“She didn’t wear those shoes down in Texas, she wore them onto the plane,” Conway added. “This is what cracks me up about the feminists … they get upset if someone says you’re wearing a pretty dress or calls you honey. But they have judgement end on end.”

President Trump and the first lady both changed into sneakers and baseball hats before exiting the plane on Tuesday. They surveyed damage from Hurricane Harvey in Corpus Christi, Texas, which is about four hours southwest of the hard-hit Houston. Harvey was downgraded to a tropical depression Wednesday after making landfall as a Category 4 storm last week.

Conway said it was “predictable” that the mainstream media would make such a big deal over Melania Trump’s shoes instead of focusing on flood victims and President Trump’s journey to the storm-ravaged state.

On Tuesday outlets such as the Mirror called Melania Trump’s ensemble “the most inappropriate clothes imaginable.”

“The first lady was savaged for donning aviators and a towering pair of stiletto heels as she began the journey today,” the article reads, calling her “Flood Watch Barbie.”

The Daily Beast also pointed out Trump’s “sky-high stilettos” in a headline and mocked the first lady by suggesting she had “waterproofed” the shoes before heading off to Houston.

Comedian Chelsea Handler similarly pointed out Trump’s shoes on her Twitter account.
