Oprah touts op-ed urging her to run in 2020: ‘Thanks for your VOTE of confidence!’
Talk show host Oprah Winfrey on Thursday tweeted out a column calling for her to run for president, stoking speculation that she’s considering taking on President Trump in 2020.
“Thanks for your VOTE of confidence!” Winfrey wrote, linking to John Podhoretz’s piece in the New York Post touting her as the “best hope” for Democrats in 2020.

{mosads}Podhoretz wrote that Winfrey is the “mirror image” of Trump: a black, female liberal who made her $3 billion fortune herself “without controversy.”
“She’s America’s generous aunt and he’s America’s crazy uncle,” the op-ed reads.
The piece highlights Winfrey’s already-existing political influence, citing a University of Maryland study that credits her as being responsible for 1 million votes for then-Sen. Barack Obama in 2008.
“I believe she’s uniquely positioned, should she wish to commit herself, to seek the Democratic nomination for president,” Podhoretz wrote.
