Walmart, Cabela’s pull bump stocks from online stores

Some retailers are removing bump stocks from their websites as momentum builds among lawmakers to ban the accessory used by the gunman in the Las Vegas mass shooting on Sunday.

Walmart and Cabela’s have both removed the product from their websites, The New York Times reported Thursday, while the device has sold out on other retailers’ sites.

Officials said 12 of the guns found in the shooter’s hotel room were fitted with the device, which allows harnesses a semi-automatic rifle’s recoil to increase its rate of fire.

Bump stock manufacturers say interest in the product has soared since the Las Vegas shooting, with one manufacturer’s site crashing on Thursday due to overwhelming traffic.

Walmart said in a statement reported by the Times that bump stocks violate their company sales policies and should never have been listed on the website.

A proposed ban on the device is gaining traction in Congress, with several GOP lawmakers offering support. The National Rifle Association on Thursday also said bump stocks should be subject to additional regulations.
