The Republican Governors Association had a record-breaking fundraising quarter with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) as chairman, raising $23.5 million through the end of March.
{mosads}That’s more than double the $9.1 million it raised in the first quarter of 2010, the last midterm year. The RGA had $59.6 million cash on hand as of March 31.
Christie’s facing a challenge as chairman of the RGA this cycle, with Republicans defending 22 gubernatorial seats compared to Democrats’ 14.
Despite the bridge scandal plaguing his administration, however, Christie’s brought the committee to fundraising success.
