Fans of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) can now “support briefs, not billionaires.”
Vermonters backing the Sanders presidential campaign have launched Bernie’s Briefs, a line of underwear embroidered with the candidate’s face and “Feel the Bern” slogan on the rear.
{mosads}Comedians Larry David and Ellen DeGeneres may have inspired the fashion statement, after Sanders revealed to DeGeneres on her show last month that he preferred briefs to boxers.
Then, in his impersonation of Sanders on “Saturday Night Live,” David took up the underwear theme.
“I own one pair of underwear, that’s it,” David said. “Some of these billionaires, they’ve got three, four pairs.”
Sanders said he thought the underwear line, which is unaffiliated with his campaign, was hilarious.
“It cracks me up, it’s unbelievable,” he told local radio station WCAX earlier this week.
The underwear, which comes in pairs for men and women, is available for $15, with 10 percent of the proceeds going to the Yellow Ribbon Fund to benefit veterans.
“Bernie is known as a champion of veterans so we wanted to give (some of the proceeds) to an organization that he would appreciate the money going towards,” one of the creators of Bernie’s Briefs, Todd Bailey, told CNN on Thursday.
The group also plans to sell T-shifts with images of the briefs on them.
