Obama plans 3-day fundraising spree

President Obama, coming off an endorsement victory in Tuesday’s Colorado primary, will spend the early part of next week fundraising for several candidates and party campaign committees.

On Monday, Obama will be in Los Angeles for a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) fundraiser with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). 

{mosads}It will take place at the home of “ER” and “The West Wing” executive producer John Wells and his wife Marilyn, according to Variety’s Wilshire and Washington blog. DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) is also scheduled to attend.

On Tuesday, the president will be in Washington state, where he’ll headline some events for Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) in Seattle and address the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Tuesday is primary day in Washington, and the Republicans will be choosing their candidate to face Murray. Former gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi is the favorite, but he’s being challenged by Tea Party favorite and former NFL player Clint Didier, who’s been endorsed by Sarah Palin.

On Wednesday, Obama has stops in Ohio and Florida.

In Ohio, he’ll host a fundraiser for Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland. Strickland supported then-Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in the 2008 presidential primaries, but his seat is considered a must-hold for Democrats, and he faces a strong challenge from former Rep. John Kasich.

Obama will then be in Miami for a Florida Democratic Party fundraiser, where Senate candidate Kendrick Meek is scheduled to appear.

The White House is backing Meek in the Democratic primary, where he’s being challenged by self-funding billionaire Jeff Greene. And Obama’s stop might alleviate concerns about how much the White House is supporting Meek in the general election race. Gov. Charlie Crist is making an independent bid, and polls show him leading Meek and Republican candidate Marco Rubio. Crist has not said which party he’ll caucus with if he wins, leading to speculation that both sides are courting him.

Meek also supported Clinton in 2008. The White House has reiterated its support for the congressman, however. Vice President Biden and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel have fundraised for him. Meek has praised the administration’s support.

“I’m one of the few who’s getting primary attention from the White House, and we certainly appreciate that,” he told The Hill in July.

Obama’s election outlook improved Tuesday, after his favored candidate, Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), prevailed in the Senate primary. Bennet was up against the Bill Clinton-supported Andrew Romanoff in the race.

But most of these fundraisers were probably scheduled before Tuesday’s results.

August has been a busy month of fundraisers for the president. He was in Chicago to help out Democratic Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias. And he was in Austin and Houston on Monday to raise money for the Democratic Party.

The president will take some down time for the rest of the summer. He’ll spend the weekend with his family on Florida’s Gulf Coast, then heads to Martha’s Vineyard on the 19th.
