DNC raises $11.5 million in July
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) took in $11.5 million in July, their second-highest total of the 2010 cycle, a party official said Thursday.
Democrats did not release their total spending in the month of July, but said they will report to the Federal Election Commission that they have $10.8 million cash on hand and are carrying $3.5 million in debt.
The total fundraising haul is the highest since the committee took in $13.7 million in March, when the healthcare reform law was passed by Congress and signed by President Obama.
Democrats stressed that they moved $3.5 million to state parties amid reports that Republican committees have underspent on bolstering state parties, which help build field organizations for candidates.
Before July, the DNC had raised about $53.8 million in 2010 while the Republican National Committee (RNC) had taken in $49 million. The RNC has not yet released its July fundraising totals.
