DNC announces $10.5 million haul in May
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) raised $10.5 million last month, more than half of which came from joint fundraising efforts with President Obama’s campaign.
{mosads}The DNC reported the haul, which included $6.5 million in donations from the Obama Victory Fund, eclipsing the $6.2 million the Republican National Committee (RNC) raised in May.
The DNC is stockpiling cash heading into next year’s election. It reported $16.5 million in cash on hand at the end of last month and debts of $13.5 million.
The totals are in no small part a result of the aggressive fundraising tour that Obama and Vice President Biden have launched since announcing their reelection campaign. While the president’s campaign can only accept $5,000 total for donors this cycle, many of the events include an additional $30,800 for the DNC — the maximum allowable contribution to the party committee.
The May totals could provide some relief for Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), the DNC chairwoman who’s caught some flak for making some more outlandish claims about Republicans.
