Super-PAC forms to back McConnell
A super-PAC has formed to support Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in 2014.
The Bluegrass Votes super-PAC registered with the Federal Election Commission earlier this month, listing Jeremy Hughes of Kentucky as treasurer.
Contacted by The Hill about the super-PAC, Hughes provided a statement from Justin Brasell, who ran McConnell’s 2008 reelection campaign.
“Bluegrass Votes plans to make independent expenditures to support Senator Mitch McConnell’s upcoming reelection campaign next cycle,” Brasell said in the statement.
Hughes and Brasell also started Freedom Pioneers Action Network, a super-PAC that plans to make independent expenditures in support of Rep. Rick Berg’s (R-N.D.) Senate bid in North Dakota.
Neither super-PAC was set up on behalf of the candidates.
Super-PACs can make and receive unlimited expenditures, so long as they do not coordinate or donate directly or in-kind to federal candidates or committees.
The news about the super-PAC supporting McConnell was first reported by Pure Politics.
