Report: Dead donors give nearly $600k since 2009

{mosads}The nearly $600,000 came from 32 people listed as “deceased” in campaign records, but donations from beyond the grave aren’t illegal. Donors are allowed to bequeath portions of their estate to political candidates and parties posthumously, but the donations must comply with Federal Election Commission giving limits.

Last week, news reports that deceased GOP mega-donor Bob Perry contributed $100,000 to a super-PAC supporting Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) reelection bid nearly two months after his death threw a spotlight on donations from the dead.

The super-PAC said the date of the donation was due to a glitch in computer software and revised the filing to reflect a contribution received the day prior to his death.
