McCotter drops out of presidential race

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.) has dropped out of the Republican primary, his office announced Thursday.

The Detroit News reports that McCotter will throw his support behind Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) and plans to run for reelection in his congressional district.

{mosads}Since McCotter jumped into the presidential race in July he’s lagged far behind his Republican competitors in the polls and failed to be invited to any of the Republican presidential debates.

On his Twitter account McCotter thanked his supporters.

“Thanks 2 my supporters 4 Ur help; & 2 all 4 affirming America’s strength & salvation remains Almighty God & her majestic people #Tmac2012,” McCotter tweeted.
