Romney earns support of Arizona sheriff tough on border security
{mosads}Romney has slammed competitor Rick Perry, governor of Texas, for using similar language in the past.
Immigration has been a repeated line of attack used by Romney’s campaign — the former Massachusetts governor accused Perry of making Texas a “magnet” for illegal immigrants because he extended in-state tuition at state colleges to undocumented students who have lived in Texas for three years or graduated from Texas high schools.
Perry has said it is a state issue and that the choice to extend in-state tuition rates was “right” for Texas, while also criticizing the federal government for not doing more to secure the border.
Babeu will likely be a fierce surrogate for Romney on the issues of border security and illegal immigration, as well as a critic of Perry’s position on the issues.
“As President, I will work with leaders like Sheriff Babeu to protect
our Southern border, provide the required assistance from the federal
government, and put an end to the magnets that cause illegal
immigration,” Romney pledged in a statement.
