Christie: As president, Trump couldn’t ‘fire’ opponents
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says Donald Trump would not be able to use his famous catchphrase if he was elected president.
“You cannot look at the Speaker of the House and say ‘You’re fired,’ ” Christie told supporters in Franklin, N.H., according to Bloomberg.
{mosads}“As much as you might like to, you can’t look at Harry Reid or Mitch McConnell and say ‘You’re fired’ if you don’t get what you want,” he added.
Both Christie and Trump are Republican presidential contenders. Christie, who says he counts Trump as a friend, lauded the businessman’s experience, but expressed doubts about his fitness for the job.
“I know he says he tells it like it is, too. I tell it like it is from the standpoint of having actually done these jobs,” Christie said. “I think quite frankly Donald would be a little frustrated if he became president of the United States.”
Christie earlier this week expressed frustration with frequent questions about Trump’s remarks about immigration.
“Donald is a friend, I’ve known him for 13 years. I like him personally, but his comments were inappropriate. That’s the 50th time I’ve said it, and it’s going to be the last time I say it,” Christie said.
Trump sits in second place in a RealClearPolitics average of polls for the 2016 GOP nomination, with 15 percent. Christie is in ninth place, with 2.8 percent.
