Union-Leader compares Trump to Biff Tannen

The main story on the New Hampshire Union-Leader’s front page on Monday compared Donald Trump to Biff Tannen, the villain from the “Back to the Future” movies.

The op-ed written by the newspaper’s leader slammed Trump as an “insult to the intelligence of Republican voters.” It included pictures of Trump and the movie character Tannen.

{mosads}“Trump has shown himself to be a crude blowhard with no clear political philosophy and no deeper understanding of the important and serious role of President of the United States than one of the goons he lets rough up protesters in his crowds,” Union-Leader publisher Joseph McQuaid writes.

“He reminds us of the grownup bully ‘Biff’ in the ‘Back to the Future’ movie series.”

The Union-Leader last month endorsed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie ahead of the Feb. 9 New Hampshire primary. Trump, however, is well ahead of Christie and the rest of the GOP field in New Hampshire polls.

McQuaid predicted that a “great majority” of New Hampshire voters will “disabuse” Trump of the notion that he can win the party’s nomination. He went on to deride Trump’s “public descent into bathroom humor and verbal bullying” as “painful, and educational, to watch.”

He also accused the media of being in the tank for Trump in order to boost Hillary Clinton’s chances of retaking the White House.

Comparisons between Trump and Biff Tannen are nothing new.

“Back to the Future” screenwriter Bob Gale told The Daily Beast in October that Trump partially inspired the character.
