Trump shows off family Bible, touts ‘Christian values’

In a play for evangelical voters days before the Iowa caucuses, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Saturday released a new video showing off the Trump family Bible.

“I really appreciate the support given to me by the evangelicals. They’ve been incredible. Every poll shows how well I’m doing with them,” Trump says in the ad, filmed from what appears to be his office in Trump Tower.

{mosads}“And, you know, my mother gave me this Bible, this very Bible, many years ago,” he added, holding up the holy book to the camera.

“In fact, it’s her writing, right here. She wrote the name and the address, and it’s just very special to me.”

The billionaire businessman closed the 30-second spot by vowing he would never let the evangelical community down.

“And, again, I want to thank the evangelicals. I will never let you down,” he said.

Trump’s religiosity has been questioned at times by the Christian wing of the Republican Party.

At a speech to evangelical Liberty University, he fumbled over the name of a book in the Bible, calling the epistle “Two Corinthians” instead of “Second Corinthians.”

And religious leaders have objected to Trump’s insistence that he has never felt the need to ask God for forgiveness.

The thrice-married Trump, who bragged about his numerous liaisons with married women in his book, “The Art of the Deal,” currently leads the GOP primary field in evangelical-heavy Iowa by 6 points over rival Ted Cruz, according to a RealClearPolitics average poll.
