Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says rival Ted Cruz is out of the race and reduced to trying to be a “spoiler.”
“Ted Cruz is mathematically out of winning the race,” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning. “Now all he can do is be a spoiler, never a nice thing to do. I will beat Hillary!”
{mosads}Trump won a huge victory in his home state of New York on Tuesday, moving closer to the GOP nomination.
The businessman received 60.5 percent of the vote Tuesday, taking 89 of the state’s 95 delegates.
Wednesday’s comments were an echo of Trump’s victory speech at Trump Tower on Tuesday night, in which he declared the nomination process all but over.
“We don’t have much of a race anymore,” Trump said. “Senator Cruz is just about mathematically eliminated.”
Trump’s victory puts him at 845 delegates, just 392 short of the 1,237 needed to clinch the nomination before the Republican National Convention in July. Cruz remains at 559, while Kasich has 147, according to The Associated Press delegate tracker.
