{mosads}Republicans in the state brought the legislation back to the Senate floor, and it passed last week in a 19-11 vote.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) announced last week that he wouldn’t seek a fourth full term as governor, opening the door for a campaign by Texas Attorney General Rick Abbott (R).
Abbott led Davis in a recent Public Policy Polling survey in a hypothetical head-to-head showdown, 48 percent to 40 percent. He reported raising $4.8 million over the same two-week period, the Tribune reported.
Davis had more than 15,000 separate donations, and more than $300,000 of her haul came from donors outside of Texas.
In an op-ed Monday in The Washington Post, Davis said she mounted her 13-hour filibuster because the Texas legislation “rolled back constitutional rights and would reduce the number of women’s health clinics in Texas from 42 to 5, thereby threatening the health and safety of thousands of Texas women.”
Perry said after the bill’s passage that it “builds on the strong and unwavering commitment we have made to defend life and protect women’s health.”
