Real estate mogul Donald Trump discussed a possible run for New York’s governor’s office at a fundraiser on Friday night.
Trump appeared at a western New York Republican fundraiser where he blasted incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s tax, energy and gun policies, according to the Associated Press.
{mosads}He told reporters at the $100-per-plate dinner that he would only run for the GOP nomination if he is unopposed in the primary.
“You can’t have people going in, knocking the hell out of each other in a primary, spending millions of dollars and then someone comes out wounded and limping,” he said, according to the AP.
Cuomo is widely expected to announce a reelection bid.
Trump could have a strong shot at unseating him given his name recognition and personal fortune. His political notoriety has increased in recent years as he became the largest advocate of the theory that President Obama was born outside the United States.
