Michelle Obama will campaign for Crist
Michelle Obama will enter the fray of Florida’s gubernatorial race on Friday, when she campaigns for Democratic challenger Charlie Crist.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that the first lady will attend a rally in Orlando with the Republican-turned-Democrat who is challenging incumbent Gov. Rick Scott. She is also slated to attend a fundraiser for Crist on the same day.
{mosads}Crist served as governor from 2007 through 2011. He ran for one of Florida’s Senate seats in 2010, but lost in the primary to Marco Rubio, who went on to win the general election and might run for president in 2016.
Crist switched parties in December 2012 and chose to announce that he had formally joined the Democratic Party by tweeting a photo of himself, holding his voter registration form, at the White House Christmas party.
Crist has been drawing on the White House’s firepower during the final stretch of the campaign. On Monday, Vice President Biden joined him for campaign stops in South Florida.
