President Obama was heckled by immigration activists on Sunday while stumping for Democratic candidates in Connecticut.
{mosads}Obama’s remarks in Bridgeport were interrupted at least four times, according to a White House pool report.
In one case, a woman shouted that she was a “dreamer” demanding immigration reform. In another case, police led away two young men who talked over the president, with one of the men wearing a shirt that said, “Obama Deports Parents.”
Obama responded to the hecklers by urging voters to keep the Senate under Democratic control.
“The Republicans are blocking immigration reform,” Obama said. “That’s one more reason we need a Democratic Senate.”
Obama was in Connecticut to campaign for Gov. Dannel Malloy (D), who’s locked in a tough rematch with Republican Tom Foley.
Immigration activists, frustrated by the lack of progress for immigration reform, have protested at a number of Democratic rallies in recent weeks, including a recent one featuring former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.).
No hecklers were reported Sunday evening when Obama campaigned for Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Tom Wolf (D) in Philadelphia.
Obama told the crowd of approximately 5,500 people, “You get to choose your future” in two days.
“First of all, Tom’s just a nice guy,” Obama said, according to a pool report. “You can tell he’s a sincere person. He’s not a professional politician. He’s in it for the right reasons.”
