Trump fundraised for Florida AG after dropped probe: report
Donald Trump held a fundraiser for the attorney general of Florida after she dropped an investigation into Trump University, the Huffington Post reported Tuesday.
{mosads}Trump did not write a check to Pam Bondi’s reelection bid, but he hosted the March 2014 event at a discount price at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla.
The Republican Party of Florida paid $4,855.65 for the venue, according to the Huffington Post. Mar-a-Lago typically charges about $140,000 to Trump’s own presidential campaign when he holds events there.
Trump paid a $2,500 fine to the IRS earlier this year after the Donald J. Trump Foundation illegally made a $25,000 political contribution to Bondi in 2013.
The foundation did not list the donation in its 2013 tax filings, instead listing a donation to a similarly named charity that never actually happened.
Trump’s group also listed “no” when asked on a tax form whether it had made any political donations in 2013.
Bondi was weighing whether to pursue an investigation into accusations of fraud against Trump University at the time. She ultimately declined to bring charges.
Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign last week accused Trump’s foundation of “actual pay to play” politics with Bondi.
Trump has repeatedly charged the Democratic presidential nominee with similar conflicts of interest regarding the Clinton Foundation.
