Poll: Voters narrowly split on Walker in Wisconsin

{mosads}Walker leads former Trek Bicycle executive Mary Burke (D), his most likely opponent, by 48 percent to 42 percent. Walker’s lead is 47 percent to 43 percent against Wisconsin state Rep. Peter Barca (D); he leads state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout (D) by 47 percent to 41 percent, and he leads former state Rep. Tom Nelson by 47 percent to 40 percent.

The poll indicates Walker’s signing of a law restricting abortion in the state may be hurting him: 47 percent of voters disapprove of it, while 20 percent approve.

The controversial governor has shown an ability to survive tough election battles, and if he wins reelection, has indicated his interest in running for president. But he’ll have to make it that far, and Burke’s ability to self-fund could make the race interesting.

President Obama’s approval rating is at 47 percent with 49 percent disapproving in a state he won comfortably in 2012.

Partisan polls should always be taken with a grain of salt.

The automated PPP poll of 1,180 voters was conducted from Sept. 13-16 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
