Christie takes nearly 60 percent in new NJ gov. poll

{mosads}In the Rutgers-Eagleton Poll out Friday, Christie takes 59 percent support to Democrat Barbara Buono’s 33 percent support among likely voters, a six-point improvement for the governor since last month.

And those polled overwhelmingly approve of his no-nonsense governing style. A large majority of Christie’s supporters, 87 percent, say they’re voting for him to support the incumbent, while only 32 percent of Buono’s supporters say they’re voting for her to support her candidacy — most say they’re voting Democratic to oppose Christie.

Christie has maintained a significant double-digit lead throughout the campaign, and his win in November is not in doubt for supporters and opponents alike.

But observers will be watching his win margin for hints at his viability in a 2016 presidential contest. Though the governor has not yet made a decision on running, he’s widely known to be considering it, and a solid margin that demonstrates strong crossover appeal and the ability to win minority and female voters would help him sell himself as the most electable candidate in a GOP primary.

The survey was conducted among 562 likely voters from Oct. 7-13, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.
