Military medals issue heats up in New York House race
Grimm said it often happens that the honors are awarded by mistake and then revisited.
“This is the last bullet in his gun,” Grimm told the paper. “He is extremely desperate. He is trying to Blumenthal me. The only problem is that I did serve, and I did serve honorably and I have the paperwork to prove it.”
Iraq Veterans for Congress, a veterans group that has endorsed Grimm, also came to his defense.
“There are dozens of good issues for Republicans to run on this year,” Kieran Michael Lalor, the group’s founder, said in a statement. “It speaks volume’s [sic] about Allegretti’s character and candidacy that two weeks before the primary he has pinned his hopes of winning on an erroneous claim about a decade old photo.”
The primary is Sept. 14.
Meanwhile, former President Bill Clinton will headline a rally for McMahon at Wagner College on Friday.
