Bill Clinton helping two more Dems
Bill Clinton continues to be the omnipresent helper for Democratic candidates this cycle.
Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato (D) on Friday announced a joint rally with the former president, who also sent an e-mail on behalf of Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) to her supporters.
“Carolyn is what I call a ‘how’ politician,” Clinton wrote. “She passed the most important piece of anti-rape legislation in modern history.” He went on to list Maloney’s support for 9/11 first responders’ access to healthcare and getting mammograms covered by Medicare. “We need her creative, persistent effectiveness in Congress,” he added.
Maloney, who has also been endorsed by President Obama, faces attorney Reshma Saujani in the Sept. 14 Democratic primary. Saujani, meanwhile, rolled out the endorsement from hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons. “Reshma is exactly the type of person we need to send to Washington right now,” Simmons said in a statement released Friday.
Clinton is set to appear Monday with Onorato in West Philadelphia. He’s also headlining a rally and fundraiser for Ohio Senate candidate Lee Fisher (D) on Sunday in Cincinnati. And on Tuesday he has events in Cleveland and Columbus to help Gov. Ted Strickland (D).
