DCCC attacks Duffy for fundraiser with Wisconsin governor

House Democratic strategists think Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) and his efforts to strip public sector workers of collective bargaining rights can be a potent issue in 2012 congressional races.

At the very least, they see Walker as an effective tool for energizing donors.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) launched on Saturday an online campaign targeting Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) and Walker for “selling out Wisconsin workers.”

Walker is expected to attend a Republican fundraiser in Duffy’s district at the Steak Pit in Washburn.

“Just days after Governor Walker’s historic power grab at the expense of Wisconsin workers, Representative Sean Duffy is not only welcoming the Governor to his district, but hoping to cash in,” said the DCCC’s Haley Morris.

“By standing at Governor Walker’s side and expecting to profit off his deplorable agenda, Representative Sean Duffy has made it clear that he supports a coordinated campaign to sell out Wisconsin working families,” Morris added.

The DCCC has circulated on online petition linking Duffy with Walker and the conservative mega-donors Charles and David Koch, who partially funded Walker’s campaign.

“The oil billionaire Koch brothers have spent more than $100,000 to help elect Representative Sean Duffy in November,” the online petition states. “During his short time in Washington, Representative Sean Duffy has already voted twice to protect taxpayer subsidies to Big Oil.

A spokesperson for the National Republican Congressional Committee did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

The NRCC’s Joanna Burgos defended Duffy in an earlier interview with Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

“The good, hardworking people of Wisconsin aren’t fooled by national Democrats and their desperate, political attacks. They know that Sean Duffy has been keeping his promises to his constituents by working hard to roll back wasteful Washington spending, restore commonsense fiscal discipline to Congress and promoting pro-growth policies that will create jobs and get the economy moving again,” she said.
