Rep. Wu crashed into parked car in 2010; didn’t want police involved
There were no injuries in the crash and Wu passed a sobriety test on scene. Listen to the audio of the call here.
A spokesman for Wu said the crash was in fact a result of the congressman falling asleep at the wheel and called Wu’s request that the police not be called to the scene “appropriate.”
“The congressman dealt with the accident exactly as any responsible person would,” Wu spokesman Erik Dorey said. “There were no injuries, and no laws had been broken, so it probably could have been appropriately handled through insurance alone.”
The new details emerged just after Wu announced plans to hold six public meetings with constituents next week, a forum he has largely shied away from in recent weeks.
Several Republicans are already weighing runs against Wu next year, including his 2010 opponent Rob Cornilles, and there’s talk of a potential Democratic primary challenge.
