Democrats make pitch for contributions to make Boehner ‘cry’

In their latest request for campaign cash, Democrats continue to fundraise off the possibility of a federal government shutdown, accusing House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) of “crying” because he’s so beholden to his “Tea Party base.”

The parties remain deadlocked, with the latest short-term funding bill set to expire at midnight Friday. Democrats have accused the GOP of holding up a possible deal because they refuse to eliminate an abortion provision in a recent spending measure that passed the House. That bill would prevent government funds from going to Planned Parenthood.

Democratic strategist James Carville accused Boehner and his “radical band of Tea Party bosses” of using “political blackmail” to “advance their radical social agenda.”

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Chairman Steve Israel (N.Y.) used the same term in an earlier fundraising pitch.

On Thursday, Carville wrote: “John Boehner is so beholden to his Tea Party base that whenever he sees them, he starts crying.”

He asked supporters to contribute a “few bucks before tomorrow” to the DCCC.

“We’ll give Boehner a whole different reason to start blubbering,” Carville wrote. “It’ll be because we made sure that Boehner’s Tea Party-backed government shutdown goes down in history as a political miscalculation of epic proportions.”
