Herman Cain enters GOP primary against incumbent Davis
Former presidential candidate Herman Cain (R) will campaign with Rep. Rodney Davis’s (R-Ill.) primary foe, former Miss America winner Erika Arnold (R), according to the Quad City Times.
Cain, the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza best-known for his “9-9-9” campaign slogan, will help Arnold at two campaign stops on Feb. 1, according to the report.
{mosads}Arnold is a big underdog against Davis and has struggled for any traction or fundraising in the race.
Still, the primary challenge is a distraction for Davis, who also faces a tough general election battle in the swing district against Democrat Ann Callis, a former chief judge of Illinois’s Third Judicial Circuit.
Both Callis and Davis have also had big-name help in recent weeks. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) recently stumped with Callis, while House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) recently visited the state with Davis.
