NRCC knocks Sink as a ‘tax-and-spender’ in first FL-13 ad
National Republicans launched their first ad in the special election to replace Rep. Bill Young (R-Fla.), slamming Democrat Alex Sink as a “tax-and-spender Florida can’t afford.”
The National Republican Congressional Committee’s ad, which is backed by $725,000 and will run till Feb. 10, hits Sink on taxes and ObamaCare.
{mosads}“You’ve seen Alex Sink’s cute ads, but what do we really know about her record?” a narrator says over a clip of Sink’s first ad, which featured her father.
“Alex Sink supports ObamaCare even though 300,000 Floridians could lose their health insurance plans because of it. Sink has supported higher taxes too. Higher property taxes. Higher sales taxes. More taxes on water and TV,” the narrator adds, a reference to her time as Florida’s chief financial officer.
The ad comes on the heels of the NRCC’s digital ad push, launched last week, that charges Sink misused a taxpayer-funded plane for campaign and personal trips.
Republicans believe if they keep the focus on Sink’s time as the state’s CFO and her support of ObamaCare, which remains unpopular in the district and nationwide, they have a shot at retaining the seat, which became more competitive for Democrats with Young’s passing last year.
But Democrats are working to make Republican David Jolly’s lobbying background a central issue in the race.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is spending at least $200,000 to run an ad that focuses on Jolly’s lobbying career — and a Democratic source tells The Hill the committee has reserved over $1.8 million in airtime through the election in March.
House Majority PAC, a prominent Democratic super-PAC, is spending $650,000 on two weeks of airtime in the state to run a yet-unreleased ad.
