House candidate Carl DeMaio’s (R) San Diego campaign office has been broken into and vandalized just days before his primary.
Computers were smashed or soaked and many cords in the office were cut, according to local reports.
DeMaio spokesman Dave McCulloch said the break-in wasn’t random.
“We are extremely disappointed someone would do this just six days before an election, specifically targeting our communications and electronic equipment,” he said.
DeMaio, one of a handful of openly gay Republicans running for office, is in a tight matchup against freshman Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.). He’s expected to win his primary against social conservative Kirk Jorgenson (R).
