Bolton endorses four in Florida

Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton is endorsing four Florida GOP congressional candidates ahead of the state’s primary on Aug. 26.

The John Bolton PAC is backing and will donate to Reps. Ron DeSantis, Mario Diaz-Balart and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen along with Miami Dade School Board Member Carlos Curbelo.

{mosads}Only Curbelo faces a competitive primary and general election. He’s running against freshman Rep. Joe Garcia (D) in a swing district, but he first must best four other GOP candidates, including embattled former Rep. David Rivera (R).

DeSantis represents a safe seat, and both Diaz-Balart and Ros-Lehtinen are unopposed in November.

In making the donations, the John Bolton PAC cited the “importance of the electoral map in Florida,” further stoking speculation the former ambassador is weighing a presidential run in two years. He said he chose these four candidates because of their support for foreign and national security policies.

“Going into 2016, the importance of succeeding in Florida can’t be understated,” Bolton said in a statement. “I’m committed to helping Florida Republicans win this November so that come 2016 we’re able to create the change America needs.”

Bolton has endorsed and donated to 17 other candidates this cycle, including Senate candidates in New Hampshire, North Carolina, Virginia, Arkansas, Iowa, Michigan and Kentucky along with House candidates in Illinois, Arizona, Virginia, Texas and Kansas.
