GOP House hopeful won’t be charged for sexual harassment
Prosecutors said on Monday, according to an AP report, that they won’t file charges against California Republican congressional candidate Carl DeMaio after a former campaign staffer alleged that he had been sexually harassed by DeMaio.
DeMaio himself has alleged that the former staff member, Todd Bosnich, broke into his campaign office and stole sensitive material. Prosecutors said they will not charge the former aide with burglary.
{mosads}Bosnich said that DeMaio groped him and made unwanted advances on him. Both men are openly gay.
The candidate has said he fired Bosnich from his position after he was caught plagiarizing a report. He also said that the burglary resulted in the theft of sensitive documents detailing campaign strategy.
Bosnich’s attorney told the Associated Press that his client intends to sue DeMaio over the sexual harassment allegations.
DeMaio is attempting to unseat Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.) in a closely watched race.
