Cruz endorses ‘Duck Dynasty’ relative
Louisiana Republican congressional candidate Zach Dasher has picked up another big-name endorsement this week, the latest support coming from firebrand Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
“Zach Dasher is a conservative with a backbone to stand up to career politicians in both parties, to help lead the fight to repeal ObamaCare, to stop amnesty, to defend our conservative values,” Cruz says in the video endorsement, adding Dasher would fight for Louisiana values.
{mosads}Dasher, a businessman, is running against embattled Rep. Vance McAllister (R-La.) and others for a spot in the race’s December runoff. McAllister won a special runoff election last year to fill the vacated seat, but he faced intense criticism after getting caught on tape kissing a married staffer.
Cruz made the endorsement comes a day after two 15-second ads started running throughout the district showing “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson, Dasher’s uncle, praising the Republican candidate for his “servant’s heart.” The popular A&E show is filmed in the district.
“We’re facing enormous threats in this country. The American Dream is under assault, government is out of control. We need a strong conservative who will stand up and lead the fight to stop the radical Obama agenda,” Cruz says in the video.
In a statement, Dasher hailed Cruz’s endorsement: “We are honored to be endorsed by a solid, proven leader in the conservative movement like Sen. Cruz. I look forward to earning the privilege and opportunity to serve alongside him and join the fight to take our country back.”
Dasher has also picked up endorsements by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Club for Growth and several other conservative groups.
