New York Democrat dodges upset
Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) has dodged what would have been a major upset, hanging on for a win against Republican Mark Assini in a race no one thought was competitive heading into Election Day.
{mosads}Assini has called Slaughter to concede Wednesday afternoon, after final results showed her with an 869-vote lead, according to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle.
Slaughter represents a heavily Democratic Rochester-based district that President Obama won by nearly 20 percentage points, and it was assumed that longtime congresswoman would coast to another victory. But Assini rode a big GOP wave and nearly pulled off what would have been one of the year’s biggest shockers.
