Pelosi: Dems could retake the House

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) predicts in a new interview two months out from Election Day that Democrats could retake the House.

“I thought in December I would’ve told you we’d win 20 seats, left to our own devices,” Pelosi told Politico for a story published Thursday.

{mosads}“Seeing the behavior of the [GOP] presidential candidates right after that when the debates [happened], I became even more optimistic because they were so pathetic.”

“Since then, I think anything is possible. I think it comes down to probably a single digit, one way or another,” she added.

Pelosi pointed to the margin of support for Hillary Clinton, arguing that a lopsided win by the Democratic presidential nominee could spell disaster for congressional Republicans.

“If Hillary [Clinton] were to win 54-46, oh my God. It’s all over. If it’s 53-47, and I think that’s in the realm of possibility … that’s a big deal. Five or more [percentage points] is a big deal,” she said.

Democrats have been focused on recapturing the Senate this year, where they need to pick up just four seats if they win the White House to take the majority and Republicans are defending more seats. Taking back a majority in the House has been viewed as a much taller task.
