DesJarlas comes up short in 2nd quarter fundraising

{mosads}He now has $88,000 cash on hand, and his second-quarter sum likely makes him one of the worst endangered second-quarter fundraisers.

DesJarlais was criticized by members of his own party and came under fire from Democrats after details surrounding a messy divorce surfaced. The anti-abortion-rights, socially conservative congressman was revealed to have had multiple affairs, supported his ex-wife’s decision to have two abortions and prescribed drugs to one of the women he was having an affair with, according to divorce papers.

The revelations didn’t prevent him from easily winning reelection in 2012, as Tennessee’s 4th district is heavily Republican. But it has opened him up to two primary challengers, both of whom substantially outraised him.

State Sen. Jim Tracy (R) brought in $303,000 in the second quarter, and state Rep. Joe Carr (R) raised $100,000.

But DesJarlais, through an aide, has previously said he has no plans to resign and will be running for reelection in 2014.
