Top GOP recruit not running for San Diego mayor

“Today I reaffirm my commitment to be San Diego’s voice in the U.S. Congress,” DeMaio said at a Tuesday press conference.

When Filner came under heightened scrutiny for accusations that he sexually harassed more than a dozen women, DeMaio had said that he was focused more on ousting Filner than his own race.

“Anyone would be better than Bob Filner, so our first step has to be driving Bob Filner from office,” he tells ABC’s San Diego affiliate.

But the top GOP recruit indicated Tuesday that he’d remain in the race against Peters, considered vulnerable by Republicans in 2014.
