Poll: Nelson still unpopular in Florida, but trounces GOP candidates
“Floridians are unhappy that Nelson voted for Barack Obama’s government-run healthcare bill — which cut $500 billion from Medicare — and his $787 billion stimulus bill that failed to jumpstart Florida’s economy and that’s why Bill Nelson will be in the fight of his political life next year.” said Jahan Wilcox, a spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Hasner spokesman Douglass Mayer added that Nelson’s numbers would only go down once voters realized how often Nelson votes with Obama.
Nelson is considered one of the most vulnerable Democratic senators up for reelection in 2012, but support for the field of GOP challengers has remained fluid. The Republicans are struggling with low name recognition and a high number of undecided voters.
The poll of 476 Florida voters was conducted Sept. 22-25 by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling, using automated telephone interviews. The margin of error was plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
