Poll: Clinton struggling to win over millennials

Hillary Clinton is struggling to win the support of younger voters, many of whom backed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the Democratic primary, a new poll finds.

A newly released NextGenClimate online poll conducted in major battleground states shows that in a four-way race Clinton has 38 percent support among voters 18–34.

{mosads}That’s only a 2-point bump for Clinton from the same poll conducted in June, BuzzFeed News reported Thursday.

In a two-way race with Republican nominee Donald Trump, Clinton’s support is at 44 percent, up from 40 percent in July.

According to the poll, 21 percent of young voters identified as “Sanders holdouts” in July. Clinton has failed to make major inroads with that group, which has only declined to 16 percent.

Trump also continues to be unpopular among millennials.

The survey found that 75 percent of young voters have an unfavorable view of the GOP nominee, while 54 percent have an unfavorable view of Clinton.

“Millennial voters continue to despise Trump,” the survey concluded. “Large majorities of millennials find his actions deeply offensive and few prefer his policy positions.”

The NextGenClimate online poll surveyed a total of 1,652 millennials and 902 likely millennial voters from Aug. 24 to 30.
