Akin: Clinton ‘incredibly hypocritical’
Former Missouri Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin, infamous for controversial comments on rape and pregnancy, called Hillary Clinton “hypocritical” for lobbing “war on women” charges at Republicans after defending an accused child rapist.
{mosads}”It is incredibly hypocritical that Hillary Clinton would carry on about an imagined ‘Republican war on women’…when she once got a child rapist off the hook who she knew to be guilty, and laughed about how she did it when interviewed,” he told the Daily Mail.
Tapes unearthed last week of an interview with Clinton in which she talks about defending an accused child rapist have sparked a firestorm of criticism of the former secretary of State and prospective presidential contender. Her comments suggest she knew the accused rapist was guilty and won him a reduced charge, and at one point she laughs about the fact that he passed a polygraph test.
“I had him take a polygraph, which he passed — which forever destroyed my faith in polygraphs,” she says, laughing.
Akin told the Daily Mail that Clinton “hired private investigators to silence those women – ‘bimbo eruptions’ in Clintonspeak — who had been seduced or sexually assaulted by her husband,” an act that he said was part of a pattern of marginalizing women.
“Hillary Clinton, in fact, has made a practice of trashing women with legitimate claims to having been assaulted,” Akin said.
The former Missouri congressman rose to national infamy after commenting in the middle of the 2012 election cycle that, “if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” speaking of pregnancy. His comments drew widespread backlash from both parties, contributed to his loss of a winnable Senate seat for Republicans and dragged down other Republican candidates who were forced to answer for them.
But Akin says it’s the Clintons who are truly offensive to women.
“I faced a media firestorm for an unclear comment. It is the responsibility of the media to make it clear that liberal Democrats like Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton are the true perpetrators of the ‘war on women,’ ” he said.
