DNC will visit six cities vying for 2016 national convention

The Democratic National Committee announced Thursday that its site selection team will visit six cities that are vying to host the party’s 2016 convention.

{mosads}Birmingham, Ala., Cleveland, Columbus, Ohio, Brooklyn, N.Y., Philadelphia and Phoenix are in the running. The DNC will make two-day site visits to the cities beginning with Birmingham on July 21 and 22. 

The site visits will continue throughout August, as the DNC visits Cleveland on Aug. 4 and 5, Columbus on Aug. 6 and 7, Brooklyn on Aug. 11 and 12 and Philadelphia on Aug. 13 and 14. The round of visits will end on Sept. 10 and 11 in Phoenix.

The DNC told NBC News on Thursday that it will delay making a final decision until the end of this year or early in 2015. The 2012 DNC national convention was held in Charlotte, N.C. 

Cleveland is also still in the running to host the Republican National Convention, which is slated for June 2016. The RNC announced Cleveland and Dallas as its two finalists at the end of June and expects to make its selection at the beginning of August.
