Santorum stokes 2016 talk
Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) stoked 2016 talk on Sunday, touting his chops on foreign policy and the need for Republicans to create a united front.
“The Republican Party needs to step forward and be a unifying party in America,” Santorum said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
{mosads}Santorum didn’t outright say he would pursue a second run at the presidency, but defended his message and “background of experience to back it up.”
“I think things will work itself out if we decide to get into this race,” he said.
Santorum also said he is the only potential candidate mulling a run that has any foreign policy experience.
“Really, there isn’t anyone else that is looking at it that has national security experience,” he said. “I was eight years on the Armed Services Committee, where I was a subcommittee chairman for all of those eight years.”
Santorum has been gathering his supporters in the past month, and is viewed as a likely presidential contender in 2016.
