Christie bashes liberal media

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) blasted the media on Thursday during his appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

“I don’t care what they write about me in The New York Times. They can keep it,” Christie said during his question-and-answer session with conservative radio host Laura Ingraham.

{mosads}Christie has had a rough month, from stumbles abroad when he went to London over questions about vaccinations, lavish travel and spending and continued questions about possible investigations into his administration. Many articles have questioned whether his possible 2016 presidential campaign can rebound.

But even though the major paper covers the Garden State, he dismissed its influence.

“I don’t subscribe, by the way,” Christie added, to applause.

{mosads}Christie started the exchange blasting “elite” members of the media who follow his actions daily, later mentioning editorials in the Times and The Washington Post.

Later, when asked by Ingraham what he gave up for Lent, he joked that he gave up the Times, but his preist told him he had to give up something he would actually miss.

He also touted his anti-abortion record as the first governor to speak at a pro-life rally on the steps of the capitol and vetoing Planned Parenthood funding a handful of times.

“People make certain assumptions because you’re from New Jersey, because you’re a Republican from New Jersey,” Christie said.

“Don’t believe what the media will tell you,” he said, about being an anti-abortion candidate with national political aspirations.

Ingraham read media descriptions of Christie: “explosive, short-tempered, impatient — and that’s just what your friends say.”

Christie offered another verb: passion.

“If you really care about something then you have to go all in,” he said. “I care about fighting the fights worth fighting.”

Christie promised that, should he launch a 2016 presidential bid, he would have a “hard, fighting campaign.”

“I’ll take my chances on me. I’ve done pretty well so far.”
