Scott Walker: Obama ‘seems to forget’ about Second Amendment

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) on Friday touted his credentials on gun rights at an annual conference held by the National Rifle Association while taking a swipe at President Obama.

“I look to Washington and I see the occupant of the White House right now seems to forget that when the president is sworn in, he takes an oath of office to protect, preserve and defend the Constitution of the United States,” Walker said while speaking at the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum.

“Well Mr. President, the last time I checked the Second Amendment is part of the Constitution.”

{mosads}Walker, who is expected to launch a run for the White House, portrayed himself as a staunch defender of gun rights as governor, an image in line with his broader conservative message.

“When we signed into law concealed carry after the previous governor had vetoed it three times, it was ultimately about freedom,” he said.

He also talked about his personal attachment to firearms.

“I love to hunt,” he said, “whether it be with my rifle or my shotgun, or sometimes I use a good Mathews bow that’s built just up the way in Sparta, Wisconsin.”

His speech received a standing ovation from the crowd, though it appeared that he was interrupted a few times.

Walker, who made his name fighting public sector unions in Wisconsin, has indicated he would likely launch a campaign in late spring or early summer.
