RNC chairman: Americans ‘can’t trust’ Clinton

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus attempted to sow doubt regarding Hillary Clinton’s trustworthiness hours before her expected campaign launch. 

“Hillary Clinton is, quite frankly, someone the American people can’t trust,” Priebus said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

{mosads}Priebus pointed to Clinton’s recent admission that she used a private email account during her four-year tenure as secretary of State and the Clinton Foundation’s decision to accept donations from foreign countries. 

“She’s going to have to account for this money,” Priebus said, pointing to nations with poor records on women’s rights that have donated to the philanthropic organization.

Priebus also suggested that Clinton’s name recognition could be a weakness.

“She has pure saturation,” Priebus said. “But yet she’s losing to a number of our candidates in those battleground states that have a third of her name ID.”

Republicans point to several Quinnipiac University polls released last week that found more voters than not in Colorado, Iowa and Virginia saying Clinton is not “honest and trustworthy.”

Those polls also showed that Clinton’s overall favorability had fallen in Colorado and Iowa, though it remained unchanged in Virginia.
